Join us in congratulating the analytical arm of EFS, as she celebrates her 18th anniversary as a financial advisor. Carolyn’s degree was in Mathematics with a concentration in economics and computers. After years of working in another industry, she felt the need for a change. We are so happy for her chance conversation on the sidelines of a rugby match with a friend who suggested she look into the career.
As the daughter of a small business owner, Carolyn never planned to go down that path, however, she wanted much more control than corporate life offered. After interviewing with many firms that she didn’t feel she fit with, she found a great match with Rockwell Associates in Wilmington, DE and starting her own practice.
Carolyn started training and obtaining her licenses almost a full year before she started in the industry because she wanted to be sure she had tools to help to her new clients. As you can see, Carolyn is a planner at heart. If you ask her, she will tell you that the first year or two were where she worked hardest, mentally. The learning never stops but early on, the learning curve is steep.
After a couple of years, Carolyn was tapped to use her experience from her past career, training and managing others. She continued to grow her own practice but also hired, trained and managed new advisors. This gave her so many opportunities for learning more about the industry, networking with industry leaders and higher education. She earned multiple awards for her work, which gave her additional opportunities and exposure.
During this time, Carolyn was tapped to present financial advisor planning concepts and demonstrating software to advisors at the annual Leap forum. This lead to her presenting at least once annually and eventually to a national trainer position, training financial advisors on the Leap planning process and software.
A lifetime learning, Carolyn has numerous FINRA securities licenses. She has a number of designations from The American College. These designations help advisors specialize in their craft. Carolyn has earned designations on Retirement Income and Eldercare planning, Wealth management and leadership. She is currently working on one dedicated to taxation.
Overtime, Carolyn stepped back from management and training to concentrate on her growing practice. It was around this time that Empowered Financial Strategies was formed. Carolyn and Joanna had met a couple of years before through a leadership program for women. Joanna reached to Carolyn to learn more about the planning process she used and had trained on. The rest they say, is history.
Today, EFS is going strong. Joanna and Carolyn have built a business that offers financial planning to Successful Pre-Retirees, Families in need of Special Needs Planning and Executive Women. They base their process on education first and not rushing to find the solution. Joanna and Carolyn partner to bring their different areas of knowledge and different perspectives to their clients in partnership. They offer workshops as a way to further education to the consumer.
